The magnetic compass was first invented as a device for divination early as the Chinese Han Dynasty (since about 206 BC), and usage recorded in Western Europe between 1187 and 1202. A rudimentary working model of a liquid compass was introduced by Sir Edmund Halley at a meeting of the Royal Society in 1690.
MY BOOK
Most men take their past stories to the grave. Emil Ziegler is a rare exception, when at age 90, his past is unearthed by pure fate. A free spirit, surfer and antique dealer named David discovers a few old photos at an estate sale. That discovery changes both men’s lives.
David meets Emil and slowly draws out Emil’s life of adventure prior to getting married in 1940. Emil’s mementos are kept in a locked wooden box under his bed. His wife and children don’t know of his past life until he starts sharing it with David.
Emil was blind in one eye at age 3. A true early waterman, Emil always pushed himself to become better. His adventures started young: saving lives as a young lifeguard in the 1920’s, becoming a surfing forerunner, learning expert diving skills in Tahiti, and rowing a small boat from San Diego to Catalina Island. When he harpoons a whale that tows him for over a day, the adventure lands him in a small Mexican village, where he falls in love with a young lady. On their voyage back to San Diego, a horrific pacific storm like no other, changes his course of time.
This book and movie will take you back to his youth in the 1920’s–1930’s and to his present-day life in 2001. It is a journey of love and passion as seen through the eyes of both Emil and David. Men will recount their own past stories and women will better understand their husbands, fathers, and loved ones.
KEYS TO SUCESS
This is a wonderful lot of vintage antique keys. They are from 1800’s and early 1900’s. they are used for furniture, locks and doors. The term skeleton key is also often used to describe lever lock keys. This usage perhaps stems from such keys’ resemblance to a skeletal, with the circle at top circumscribing the triangle at one-third the vertical length, resembling a stylized skull
600 year original ancient very old Indian stone axe weapon from CA or AZ region. This is a 5″ x 2 1/2″ all Indian made . This came from estate of professor of archeology and history. Although stone axes had been used as tools and ritual objects by Native Americans for millennia, the axe did not become popular as a weapon until after Europeans had introduced iron and steel to native tribes. The word “tomahawk”– which is now synonymous with Indian-style fighting hatchets– originally referred to a war club in the Powhatan language. Once steel became available, however, axes with metal heads eclipsed the more old-fashioned war clubs as the Native American melee weapon of choice, and the word “tomahawk” began to be widely used to refer to this style of weapon.
This is a stunning early 1900’s American crackle art glass13″vase. Has deep green emerald color. The history of crackle glass date backs to the 16th century. American makers start early 1900’s to present day. One of the primary reasons for creating crackle glass was to hide imperfections. A piece of glass that revealed lines or swirls through it was known as “corded.” The glass was then crackled to cover up the imperfection instead of being disposed.
Mickey Mouse film from the early 1930’s This is great shape. Mickey Mouse was born 1928. His first film was Steamboat Willie. Walt Disney was the heart if Mickey Mouse. My father was one of the biggest Disney, Mickey Mosue collectors of all time. He was a Disney artist and toy maker. He had museum in Japan and New Zealand. I lived this life. Going to the sudios as a young child exploring the Tunnels at Disneyland, see in the Spacemoutain being contructed from inside. etc,
Vintage 1920’s German porcelain bust doll. She has original purple dress and is total 8″ with dress on. These fashion dolls were more used as vanity display for the ladies stick pins and jewelry. The kids would play with them and many were used as toys during the depression era.
Two vintage Kelloggs Ogg the caveman and lady promo cereal toys 1 3/4″ from Cocoa Krispies. Promo toys in ceral boxes started in early 1900’s, Some early examples were cut out toys on boxes. Early promotion to target the kids. Many of these items are small and hard to find, many lost or just broken or trashed.
CUSTOM MADE
Estate custom made large solid 750 18kt gold ring, has 12 fine diamonds , weighs 9.2 grams and sz 8.5 ring. It is 1/2″ wide. There are designer hallmarks inside ring. 18-karat gold is 18 parts gold to 6 parts alloys, or 75 percent gold. The 750 marking is a European marking for 18k.

It is what gave joy and claim to their land , farmers used them as wind direction, Kids often played with them. They were works of art each piece was hand crafted and made.
